Millington High School is eagerly preparing for the "Schools to Tools" event, set to take place on Tuesday, March 12. This initiative aims to enlighten juniors and seniors about the abundant training and career opportunities available in the construction trades apprenticeship programs across Michigan.
At the heart of "Schools to Tools" is the belief that unionized skilled tradespeople are the backbone of Michigan's infrastructure. They build our roads and bridges, construct solar fields and power plants, and erect factories and office buildings. The men and women who pursue careers in construction are vital to our economic future. Their work is not only financially rewarding, with competitive salaries and meaningful benefits, but also offers a sense of pride in what they build and empowers them to lead fulfilling lives.
The event will feature a state-of-the-art trailer valued between $1 and 2 million dollars, which will serve as an interactive hub for students to explore the world of skilled trades. Inside the trailer, students will find virtual 3-D stations that will immerse them in the various aspects of the construction trades, providing a hands-on experience that goes beyond traditional classroom learning.
Outside the trailer, students will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities using drills, hammers, and other tools commonly used in the skilled trades. These activities will give students a glimpse into the daily life of a skilled tradesperson and help them understand the importance of these professions.
With the guidance of 12 apprentices and journeyman workers, students will be able to ask questions and gain valuable insights into the world of skilled trades. These skilled professionals will not only educate students about the technical aspects of their work but also share their personal experiences and the rewards of a career in the construction trades.
Principal Lenny Dantinne expressed his appreciation to Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Trato for their efforts in coordinating this event. He emphasized the school's commitment to providing students with a comprehensive education that extends beyond the classroom and prepares them for successful futures in whatever path they choose.
